Christmas is a global celebration with fascinating traditions that remind us that the world is a tapestry of cultures. To navigate and fully participate in that magic, communication is the most important tool. Learning a language is not a task; it is the most valuable gift we can give ourselves.

The beauty of Christmas lies in its differences:
- In Latin America: The celebration centers on Christmas Eve (December 24th), with the fervor of the Posadasand the Novena de Aguinaldos. The language allows you to understand the villancicos (carols) and ask for tamalesor natilla at the family dinner.

Halloween: The Perfect Global Celebration for Learning Through Play
October brings with it one of the most anticipated and beloved holidays for both adults and children: Halloween! Far from being solely a United States tradition, this festival has transcended borders, becoming a cultural phenomenon that unites families and friends, especially in the US and, increasingly strongly, across Latin America.
It is the perfect excuse to unleash imagination, transform into fantastic characters, and, best of all, collect delicious sweets! But besides being the best party of the year for many, it’s a golden opportunity for children to learn naturally and in a very, very fun way.
Watching children excitedly preparing for “Trick-or-Treat” is seeing learning in action. The act of dressing up not only fosters creativity but also introduces thematic vocabulary that they will gladly use. The Costume: By choosing to be a witch, a vampire, a ghost, or a skeleton, children associate the word with an image and a game. Ask them: “What have you dressed up as?” or “Can you give me a monster scare?” to reinforce these words. The Candy Collection: The magic phrase, “Trick-or-Treat!”, is the center of the action. By repeating it at every door, they are practicing articulation and social interaction. Key words like sweets, candy, chocolates, and pumpkin integrate into their vocabulary with every step they take.
While Halloween has its roots in Celtic traditions that were consolidated in the United States, its festive spirit has been enthusiastically adopted and adapted in many Latin American countries.

It is essential to consider that learning languages often arises from necessity, especially if we emigrate to countries where we do not master the local language. It can also be motivated by travel to places with cultures completely different from our own. Furthermore, learning a new language can be crucial for accessing job opportunities that require it or for competing in a market where others already speak multiple languages.
The most wonderful aspect of learning an additional language besides our native one is that it not only stimulates a part of our brain but also facilitates communication. It is an incredible tool that provides us with numerous benefits.
In my personal experience, I grew up in Latin America, where Spanish is my native language. However, since my parents emigrated from Greece, I also learned Greek. Over time, when I moved to the United States, I found myself using all three languages daily at work. This ability made me feel useful, and I am deeply grateful to my parents for giving me the opportunity to speak both Greek and Spanish. I learned English out of necessity as a new immigrant in the United States. This is a clear example of the importance of having additional tools, such as language knowledge.
In conclusion, it is extremely relevant to learn any language, as we will always use it in various life circumstances, whether for work, travel, translation, or helping others, among many other situations.

In recent years, we have witnessed an unprecedented wave of technological advancement. In the field of education—especially in the study of foreign languages—artificial intelligence offers a wide range of resources that enrich the learning process. On the other hand, AI can also be a great ally for those who enjoy writing—whether it’s stories, articles, or even personal journals in another language. However, it’s important to keep in mind that while these tools are helpful, they cannot replace the emotional and expressive richness that humans bring to language.
Artificial intelligence doesn’t have personal experiences or emotions to share.
